My boyfriend and I just celebrated our two year anniversary, which is very exciting.
Today he left to go to Mexico for a week and I'm going to miss him a lot!
I am 16 years old and it scares me to know that so many of my peers- and even elders are not even remotely aware of the issue of Net Neutrality, or what it means for the future of our country. That is why I have made it my goal to inform as many people as I can on this issue.
I wrote my congressmen last night:
The internet is THE last true forum of expressing our selves and it represents the highest form of freedom of speech. Radio is no longer accessible to the public, television never truly has been, and now our rights on the internet are slowly fading away. And hardly anyone is taking notice. It makes me heartbroken that this is happening to our country. Internet users should be in control of the content that they see. Internet service providers should not use their market advantage to control what users view- and our government should not allow this to happen.
If computer owners want to control what their computer can access, then they easily can. There are plenty of programs out there for that purpose, but censorship is not a cookie cutter issue. All of the people under one ISP should not be able to access only certain websites- and it can certainly come to that.
This is a matter of choice and control. Leave the choice in the hands of the people, and do not let more control over what citizens see be given to corporations.
Thank you.
-----------
So many people don't know about net neutrality and it's slow demise.
Even kids who are supposed to be up to date with whats going on-- the kids in Speech and Debate. hahaha. In Student Congress- no one had anything to say about my speech on net neutrality, and one girl was even open about how she didn't know what it was.
People's reaction to me explaining is- "Wait- they could take away Myspace?!" I simply replay, yeah, if your ISP wanted to. "THAT'S MESSED UP!"
Its sad, but I guess if that's what gets the message across- so be it!

Kids
I met my favorite little kid today. Sean and I were hanging out in the
park and a little guy in a baseball cap and a wife beater comes up to
the swings. He's holding a skate board that is almost as big as him. I
told him I liked his hat and he smiled. He started to swing, and I went
and sat down. He started climbing up a broken swing. He wanted it to be
six so he could go to skate land with his cousin. So sweet and cute. :)

March
I recently made it to State in Speech and Debate, for my speech about Hurricane Katrina. I only got second, and was beaten out by a speech about Gummy Bears.
One of the Judges gave my choice of topic a two, because apparently the most recent disaster in our country isn't relevant, especially because it happened to me.
I always find odd pictures. I've begun to collect them. I found one in the school bathroom of someone's dog in the snow. I was walking with Sean one day and found a picture of someone's baby in the grass. (He almost didn't let me pick it up, I guess it is kind of creepy. Haha.) I hope I find some more random pictures.

Another King, Just For The Day
Martin Luther King assembly today. With five intercom reminders that it was not a pep assembly, as most of the kids here are more excited about a basket ball game instead of these great past movements. Why can't we get "peppy" about this instead? As our speaker asked for every one to unite in changing our town, I witnessed about 500 coversations. Uncaring. Unmoved. They don't want to be activists. They don't want to look at the big picture. They want to go to the game. They want a pep assembly. They just want to cheer for us, and against them. Who's better? Who's right? It doesn't matter.Kids talking about how they don't like King because he didn't do anything. Where have you been? Maybe it didn't benefit you, but its most certainly something. A whole change in history is nothing? Sounds like a good dose of being overly apathetic. The bigest rise in cheers we got during the assembly was for our monday off.
These children our future?
Please let there be more hope in humanity somewhere.

Christmas Cancelled?
The church sign reads "NO JESUS. NO CHRISTMAS." I walked by and thought, "There is no Jesus. There is no Christmas." It almost seems to tell you to go about your business, and not blare carols in, so called, nonpartisan schools, where today at lunch I could have gotten a picture taken of me on some pervert in a suit's lap. But now it is winter break, and I can avoid retail environments that remind me that I'm going to go to hell if I don't trade for their profit this season. I will be shutting myself inside, away from the cold, and artificial warmth.
A couple of weeks ago I played my first show. (Hear us out?) And I should play another soon because The Music Appreciation Club Daniel and I put founded earlier this year at our school will hopefully be putting on a show In January. The administration said we couldn't have very many bands, as its the first one and they want to make sure kids won't hardcore dance and other crap like that.
Does anyone in the central Washington area want to help me and a couple friends start a zine? That would be awesome. Just leave a comment telling me how to (Digitally) get a hold of you. I have AIM, Myspace, email, what ever pretty much.
I have no facebook, as they deleted me because I didn't have enough friends in my network. I added too many people from New Orleans in comparison to Yakima kids. So they labeled me as a pedifilic internet predator. Sounds like a stupid system to me...
So long.
